Contractor Partner Whitfield and Brown has recently completed a programme of refurbishment works on behalf of Client Hugh Baird College. In addition to these works Whitfield and Brown engaged students in several social value activities, taking place virtually due to Covid – 19 restrictions.
Working closely with the college, led by Whitfield and Brown Director Zoe Brooke, an open platform was provided to students to understand and gain information on the works as they were ongoing.
This included:
Weekly update videos: These videos were provided by the site management team and were shared with the colleges’ construction students via the college tutors. This allowed students to observe progress and understand the sequencing of activities and how the trades interface was managed.
Student engagement session via Zoom: This involved key site team members, client team members, support staff and college tutors. This Q&A session allowed for students to ask questions about how to get into the industry what employers look for in CV’s, what they should consider studying and what experience they need.
Apprenticeship: During the project, 3rd year Joinery student at Hugh Baird College (Ellis Mulhaney) was appointed by one of Whitfield and Browns subcontractors (MMJ Joinery) on an apprenticeship. Ellis was a credit to the college, working hard and benefitting from hands on learning.
