Warden Hand Over Orthopaedic Teaching Facility For Manchester Metropolitan University

Procure Partnerships Framework Contractor Partners Warden Construction recently handed over a programme of refurbishment and relocation works with the development of the Movement Laboratory, the newest addition to the Brooks Building for the Faculty of Health at Manchester Metropolitan University.

This education project was secured via the Procure Partnerships North West Framework with Warden awarded the project under a single stage tender.

The brand-new Movement Lab is a vital state of the art facility, used for teaching and research purposes in collaboration with local Orthopaedic Surgeons, allowing gait impairments to be assessed by biomechanical examination, coupled with gait assessment. The facilities are vital in supporting the medical professionals of the future.

Throughout the duration of the 9-week long programme of works, Warden Construction focused highly on the health and safety around staff and students as works were conducted in the live University environment. During the works, the remaining floors and adjacent rooms were occupied with a one-way system due to Covid; therefore, it was essential to minimise noise and disruption to the building users.

Warden ensured that site boundaries were secured and segregated with controlled access and facilities protected and cleaned on completion. All site deliveries were part of a site logistics plan to reduce congestion with timings of all deliveries agreed with the Building Managers outside of busy periods to reduce disruption.

The project was successfully completed both on time and within budget.

Ian Williams, Managing Director at Warden Construction, commented: “The collaborative approach adopted by the client, MMU and our team was excellent especially when working to a tight design and procurement deadline. In the midst of Covid-19 and the resulting resource and supply chain issues, Warden successfully delivered this project with zero accidents, on time and within budget without disruption to the operations of the building and its users. This partnership ethos has served us well. We are delighted to deliver this state-of-the-art facility on behalf of MMU.”
