Contractor partner Conamar have now completed a series of £1.8M Refurbishment works, consisting of the conversion of an existing fracture clinic into a new specialist paediatric ward, at the Darent Valley Hospital on behalf of client Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust.
The project was secured via the Procure Partnerships South East Framework with Conamar directly awarded onto the scheme.
Works include new Accessible WC & Baby Change, Resus Paediatric, Clean Utility, Dirty Utility, Resource Room, Assessments Room, CAMHS Assessment Room, Acute Assessment Bay, Triage room, Paediatric HDU Room, Waiting Room, WC Ambulant, Disposal Hold and social care within Darent Valley Hospital.
To achieve these outcomes the scheme involved a series of enabling works, demolition, suspended ceiling installation, removal of existing flooring, floor screed followed by installing sheet flooring, skirtings, privacy screen system and framed partitions. Further external and internal door sets and ironmongery were also installed with additional access hatch to M & E, installation of duct and wall panel lining, M & E fitout, fixtures and fittings, sanitary accessories and safety signage.
To meet the client’s funding conditions, Conamar accelerated an 18 week programme to meet a 9 week period. They also accelerated the pre-construction period, undertaking design development, pricing and mobilisation in just 4 weeks. This was achieved in part due to using a direct award procurement and working 24/7 on site.
The project was particularly logistically complex, as works have been carried out around the live A&E department. However, Conamar successfully overcame this by early engagement with the hospital to agree access / egress routes and clearly segregated work areas.
Scott Greenhall, Director at Imagile Group, Commented: “Conamar have been outstanding throughout the design, procurement and construction of the project. Conamar have been integral to the successful delivery of this project. Conamar have worked collaboratively with the client and their professional team to deliver this project under what is an extremely challenging programme of 9 weeks, working 24/7 in a live hospital environment, throughout the second wave of the COVID pandemic. The project is currently on programme, within budget and the quality is great. The feedback from all parties throughout the construction has been fantastic.
Dean Latimer, Contracts Manager, Conamar, Commented: “This has been a particularly complex project, with an accelerated programme at both preconstruction and construction stages. We are delighted with the successful execution of the works, with a great collaborative process with the client, designers and hospital representatives from the outset.”
Phil Osborne, Key Account Manager, Procure Partnerships Framework, Commented: Procure Partnerships Framework are delighted to have been able to assist Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust to achieve their desired outcomes at Darent Valley Hospital for their new Paediatric Emergency Department (ED) / Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) area. The project has been delivered in an incredibly short space of time due to amazing team work from everyone at Conamar on the brand new, purpose built ED/PAU combined children’s area, which is light, bright, spacious and fully functional.
