Progress Update: The Martin High School Sports Hall

Procure Partnerships Framework Contractor Partners Stepnell are making excellent progress on a programme of New Build works with the construction of a new sports hall and extension to the existing car park of The Martin High School. the new facility will provide a state-of-the-art sports facility for learners, staff, and community hire users, on behalf of our framework users Lionheart Academies Trust.

This Education project was procured via the Procure Partnerships East Midlands Framework under a two stage call off procedure.

The new sport facility will include a multipurpose four court badminton centre, gym facility, performance studio, learner changing rooms, staff changing rooms and extra office space. A new, larger car park will also benefit the school plus those in the local area, providing a much-needed indoor sports space for local clubs, teams, and those looking to be more active with the option to hire out the space to be made available upon completion.

Stepnell are currently working within a live school environment in a busy residential area, which creates several challenges for the team. However, timed deliveries, engagement with the school, and management of deliveries to the site campus are just a few things that have been essential to the smooth running of the scheme so far.

Stepnell have also focused on creating added social value, most recently with a career’s day at the school on Apprenticeship week as well as completing tours of the site for the design students looking to expand their knowledge. This included 68 students in total across 8 tours. The scheme has also benefited from providing more local employment opportunities and will deliver 83% of the works through local supply chain within 30 miles of the project.

The project is due to complete in late Spring 2022.

A representative at Stepnell commented: “We are looking forward to completing the new sports hall at Martin High School for our client Lionheart Academies Trust. We have enjoyed a fantastic relationship with the client and school throughout the works and appreciate how much the scheme means to the school, its students and local community. We are proud to be delivering 83% of the works through our local supply chain, within 30 miles of the project.”

Conor Neild-Crabb, Key Account Manger (East) Commented: “The collaborative approach adopted by Stepnell, Surveyors to Education, A+G Architects, and the wider team has been excellent from the moment the contractor was appointed. Since getting to site this has continued and a number of brilliant outcomes have been achieved, including the local supply chain involvement. We’re very much looking forward to seeing this scheme complete and would be pleased to continue supporting Lionheart Academies Trust in the future.”
