Procure Partnerships Framework Contractor Partners Seddon have completed initial works on a programme of refurbishment works at Eureka! Science + Discovery
The Eureka project consists of several phases and once completed, will be a new national attraction in the Liverpool City Region aimed at inspiring children and young people to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM).
The project was secured via the Procure Partnerships North West Framework with Seddon appointed under a two stage design and build contract and monitored via Compliance Chain
The works consisted of the soft strip out, non structural remodelling of an existing Grade II Listed terminal building and an attraction building – shell and core only. Seddon fully modified and adapted the M&E services, provided soft flooring and joinery with reception desks and counters.
Taking an existing estate and transforming it for a new purpose comes with it’s fair share of challenges. The development and refurbishment of this 100 years old building led to several threats to the condition of some work areas but Seddon’s open and regular communication with their design team allowed them to use their construction knowledge to find creative and effective design solutions.
believing that young people learn best when they can be hands on, the museum will focus on providing a more interactive experience by straying away from the more traditional museum experience, promising that “There won’t be anything trapped behind glass cases, complex instructions and definitely no signs saying do not touch!”
The completed project will bring an attraction of national significance to the docklands area which has suffered decline for many years, creating more tourism and positively impacting the local economy. It is believed that Eureka will be the most visitor-led attraction in the UK when it’s doors open to the public later this year.
Vikki Thomas, Bid Team Leader, commented: “Our Company value is that “people make places” and this couldn’t ring truer for Eureka! Science + Discovery, whose work will go a long way in helping young people in Merseyside and beyond to learn more about the various career pathways available to them”.
Natalie Palframan, Key Account Manager, Commented: “Last year we visited the Eureka construction site with our contractor partners Seddon. It was very impressive to see the transformation of the building underway so I’m excited to see this phase of the scheme complete. When Eureka opens its doors It will provide a fantastic facility to nurture the learning of Children in the local community and beyond!”
