Procure Partnerships Framework Contractor Partners Cosmur are currently on site making progress on a programme of New Build and Extension Works at Bishop Wand School in Spelthorne, on behalf of framework users Surrey County Council.
This Education Project was procured via the Procure Partnerships London Framework with Cosmur appointed under a Single Stage all-off procedure. This project is being monitored via Compliance Chain.
When complete, the expansion will expand the school’s capacity to accommodate more students, which is in high demand in Spelthorne. Furthermore, Bishop Wand School is the only Church of England secondary school in the borough, so the expansion will also maintain a balance between faith and non-faith education.
Works include new build dining hall and classroom block, extension of the science lab, adaptations to the kitchen, and external works including external drainage, Structural alterations and services.
Cosmur have carried out soil and ground analysis for waste, investigated soakaway and reviewed the existing foundation design well in advance to avoid any unforeseen obstructions.
Early entry to building, taking place during available school breaks, also allowed Cosmur to review condition and suitability of existing services and structure through MEP validations, building fabric survey, asbestos survey, and underground services surveys to carry out works without interruption.
The project is due to complete in Spring 2023.
Saeed Abbasi, Project Surveyor commented: “Working within an occupied school comes with its own challenges, however, to minimise disruption we are undertaking all the major works including lifting of heavy materials and movement of plants during the school holidays. We put special emphasis on maintaining a tidy site and continue maintaining clear and unimpeded access for the school. We have also sourced local labour and supply chain partners for the project, keeping in tandem with our Social Value commitments”
