Kier Construction completes extension works set to leave a lasting legacy at North Chadderton School. This project has unveiled an impressive array of modern facilities on behalf of Oldham Borough Council.

Spanning 1670m2, North Chadderton’s fit-for-purpose library now offers a space that will nurture a love for literature and knowledge amongst students for years to come. In addition to the library, there is also a new science block with six fully equipped laboratories and two prep rooms.
Beyond traditional academic facilities, a sports pavilion with changing facilities, additional classroom, Café and a sheltered external hard standing area have been developed, providing flexible spaces for community gatherings, events, and workshops.
Kier Construction has carefully considered the safety and wellbeing of the school’s staff and students throughout. The delicate balance of working within a live school environment ensured that the learning process remained uninterrupted.
Throughout the construction journey, Kier Constructions commitment to social value was at the forefront of the project. among the social value targets achieved were 18 local direct employees, 124 hours given to local school and college visits, 187 weeks given to local apprentices, 16 hours given to support young people into work, 50% local people employed.
In June, Kier Construction won the “Social Value Delivery for an Educational Project Award” at the Procure Partnerships Social Value Awards 2023 for their work at North Chadderton School.
Expressing their appreciation, a North Chadderton representative said: “We would like to record our sincere appreciation to Kier who have managed the works at North Chadderton. Working in a live school brings many challenges, at all times both staff and students were safe and there was no disruption to learning. The new facilities will be enjoyed by the North Chadderton community for many years to come”.
