Procure Partnerships Framework Contractor Partners Galliford Try are making excellent progress on the state-of-the-art Boho X development. This programme of New Build works marks the first phase of a wider development focusing on the growth of the digital and creative sector in Middlesbrough, on behalf of framework user Middlesbrough Council.
This project was secured via the Procure Partnerships North East Framework with Galliford Try appointed under a single stage call off procedure.
This new 6-storey facility will provide office accommodation and create opportunities and creative access for the digital sector. Boho x will invest and attract talented individuals and start-up businesses to the region.
Works commenced in Summer 2021 following an initial 4-week mobilisation period. The initial design was developed to RIBA Stage 3, and Galliford Try engaged local supply chain partners during tender stage specifically for structural elements of foundations and the steel frame. there is a cut and fill exercise to take place to accommodate the level change on site. The external envelop is a brick structure connected to the structural framing system. The windows are fitted and glazed from the inside, and the main M&E plant is located on the roof along with a PV array.
Galliford Try have overcome some big logistical challenges. For example, the site is located on a demolished old housing estate that previously contained basements. The basements were unforeseen and were therefore excavated. A high volume of mass fill concrete was required to fill these voids, which further increased the size of the pad foundations.
Galliford Try are continuing to tackle challenges like these head on and ensure all work on site is done safely and with minimum delay. The project will also focus highly on creating a more sustainable space with social value activities being of the highest importance, with a target of an impressive 80% of costs to the local supply chain, creating employment opportunities and engagement with nearby schools and communities
Cliff Wheatley, Managing Director of Galliford Try Building North East and Yorkshire, commented: “We are delighted to have been entrusted by Middlesbrough Council to deliver this important new facility for the local community. In a post-pandemic world, high-quality working spaces are still going to be necessary, and we look forward to working with all the stakeholders involved to produce a real statement building for the town centre.”
Faye Dolan, Procure Partnerships Framework, commented: “Boho X was one of the first projects that Procure Partnerships supported once the national roll out took place. To see this project come so far and overcome numerous hurdles has been incredible. The Procure Partnerships team looks forward to watching Boho X and the surrounding area develop even further.”
