Contractor partner City Build has completed a £1M upgrade to the Emergency Department of Arrowe Park Hospital. The project was secured via the Procure Partnerships North West Framework.
The sole purpose of the project was to provide an urgent upgrade to the A&E department to keep patients safe during the difficult winter months and on-going coronavirus pandemic.
The key goal was to have the facility completed within a 12-week period, to coincide with the projected peak demand for hospitals in January and February. However, one of City Build’s great successes was that the project was handed over early, at 11.5 weeks, within the Trust’s budget, safely and defect-free. This was achieved through open communication channels between the whole project team: The Trust’s project manager and clinicians, the design team, including Walker Sime, Rider Hunt and Ryder Architecture, and City Build’s dedicated supply chain.
These works were carried out in three phases: enabling works to form a new fire escape, refurbishment of Red Majors including 8 bays with glazed screens plus clean and dirty utility, toilets and nurse bays and finally the creation of a 6-bay High Dependency Unit with extensive mechanical modifications in each room.
City build ensured Social value was achieved on the project by creating a safe, comfortable and clean environment for patients attending the A&E department with (and without) Covid-19.
