Esh Hands Over New £5.2m Willow Wood Primary School

Procure Partnerships Framework Contractor Partner Esh Construction has handed over a £5.2m programme of works with the construction of a brand new Primary School, on behalf of Sunderland City Council.

The project was secured via the Procure Partnerships North East Framework.

Willow Wood Primary School, which replaces the former Willow Fields Community Primary School in Sunderland, was successfully completed over the summer and has now opened its doors to over 160 primary school students.

Esh have developed a modern learning environment with additional outdoor spaces, including hard surface sport and play areas to a large football pitch and wetland areas. The brand-new facilities will cater to both students and staff and even include a therapy room for children with special educational needs and disabilities.

The Esh project team have received outstanding feedback and praise for their work from the start of the project right through to completion and handover. The Primary School is an excellent addition to the local community and will have a positive impact on the lives of its many students.

Brian Joyce, Construction Director at Esh Construction Commented: “We are delighted to hand over this fantastic new school which will provide a much-improved learning and teaching environment for the local community. I am very proud of the team, having managed the additional challenges brought by the pandemic to deliver an outstanding development in time for the new academic year.”

Lindsay Robertson, Headteacher, Willow Wood Primary School Commented: “We’re all absolutely thrilled with the school, which is just night and day compared to the old building. Everything about our new school building is aspirational and inspiring, and we know that will rub off on our amazing students who will be able to take so much pride in their learning environment, which in turn will see them take more pride in their work.”

“I think our students know that, academically, things are changing. This new school building means they are now in a fresh, modern, clean environment and that will make an incredible difference to our children, our staff and to our community.”

Faye Dolan, National Framework Manager at Procure Partnerships Framework, Commented: “Seeing one of the first projects that Procure Partnerships supported in the North East complete is brilliant. Congratulations to Esh construction for completing the Willow Fields School (now Willow Wood) to such a high standard. We have no doubt that this school will be a great asset to the community.”
