University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS East Side Panel Board replacement
“This was an exceptionally well-planned project, staffed by a well-experienced and safe workforce right from the start of the preparation works right through to the installation, testing, and final switchovers”
Clerk of Works Superintendent at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust

This project delivered critical electrical infrastructure upgrades for the Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, supporting the long-term resilience and future expansion of key healthcare services including A&E, MRI, CT and Oncology departments.
Procured via the Procure Partnerships Framework
TClarke has successfully completed the replacement of the main LV switchgear panel at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, future-proofing the electrical infrastructure serving approximately 50% of the hospital estate, including critical clinical areas such as A&E, MRI, CT, and Oncology.
Delivered between November 2025 and March 2026, the project required detailed pre-construction planning and close collaboration with hospital stakeholders to ensure safe, seamless delivery.
The project was procured via the Procure Partnerships South West Construction Framework and was delivered on time and within budget.
Delivering in a Live Environment
The core challenge of this project was the replacement of critical electrical infrastructure while keeping a busy hospital running. To achieve this, TClarke used backup generators and multiple runs of cabling to maintain supply to all distribution equipment throughout the works.
The entire panel change was carefully planned and executed within a continuous 96-hour working window, requiring detailed coordination, robust contingency planning, and close collaboration with hospital stakeholders at every stage.
The pre-construction phase was critical. The new switchgear panel was specifically designed to allow the existing cables to be incorporated with ease, minimising disruption and reducing risk during the live installation phase.
Procurement That Works at Every Scale
The completed project has provided additional spare capacity to support future upgrades and expansion, a lasting benefit for the Trust, its staff, and the patients it serves.
This project was procured via the Procure Partnerships South West Framework under a Direct Award Call-off Method. This project demonstrated that framework procurement isn’t just for large, complex schemes. Whether you’re delivering a £600k electrical upgrade or a £100m new build, our frameworks offer a straightforward, compliant route to market and access to pre-vetted contractors that are best suited to meet the needs of your project requirements.
