I&G has completed the refurbishment of the Reading Room in the Health Sciences Library at the University of Leeds, transforming a group work area into a vibrant, inclusive learning environment designed with students at its heart.
Procured via the Procure Partnerships Framework
Located within the Worsley Building, the Health Sciences Library refurbishment formed part of a broader University of Leeds initiative to revitalise key learning spaces across campus. Students were consulted throughout the design process, with their ideas shaping the final environment.
The full project was delivered directly adjacent to a live library, requiring I&G to work with minimum disruption to students and staff at all times.

- Refreshed reading room and mezzanine
- IT suite with bring-your-own-device workstations
- New skylights for natural light throughout
- Acoustic baffling for individual study areas
- Wheelchair access to mezzanine level
- Kitchen facilities and collaborative home base
- Natural materials including moss walls
- Existing artwork protected throughout
A new standard for student learning spaces
Procured through the Procure Partnerships Framework, I&G’s refurbishment of the Health Sciences Library has created a space that puts student wellbeing and collaboration at its core, a model for how universities can reimagine their learning environments.
