Galliford Try Brentwood School Expansion Trafford Council
“Working closely with the school during pre-construction, we embedded their vision into the design.”
Managing Director, Galliford Try North West

Galliford Try has completed the £6.4m expansion of Brentwood School in Sale, delivering 80 new pupil places for young people with SEND and creating a new 1,109 sqm teaching block that brings the school’s total footprint to 4,923 sqm.

Procured via the Procure Partnerships Framework
On behalf of framework users by Trafford Council, the expansion addressed the rising demand for SEND school places across the area. Brentwood School caters to students aged 11–19 with severe learning difficulties, autism, and complex medical needs, and is co-located with Brentwood Community College, which provides further education for students aged 19–23.
Originally opened in 2016, the school had been experiencing a sustained rise in student numbers, making the expansion a critical investment for the community.
Students were able to lay the first brick
To mark a key milestone during construction, the headteacher and pupils of Brentwood School were joined by Galliford Try, Trafford Council, and Procure Partnerships Framework to lay the first bricks of the new extension. celebrating the strong collaboration that had been central to the project from the outset.
Throughout the build, pupils were given the opportunity to visit the construction site every Friday, offering them valuable insight into the world of construction. Galliford Try also engaged with the school through assemblies, keeping the whole school community closely involved in the project’s development.

Community and training at the heart of the build
The project delivered significant community value beyond the building itself. A partnership with Trafford College saw over 40 T-Level students gain hands-on construction experience during the build, strengthening ties between the school, college, and the local community.
Weekly site visits for pupils, school assemblies, and the brick-laying event all helped ensure that Brentwood School’s students felt ownership over a building designed and built for them.

80 new places for SEND pupils in Trafford
