Birkenhead Regeneration Scheme
“All those long hours and hard work paid off in a project that will serve and benefit the local community.”
Project Manager, GRAHAM

GRAHAM has completed a £12.09m transformation of Birkenhead Town Centre for Wirral Council, delivering safer streets, improved walking and cycling infrastructure and high-quality public spaces that support the town’s wider regeneration ambitions.
Procured via the Procure Partnerships Framework
Delivering Regeneration Works in a Live Town Centre
The project was delivered across two principal work areas, allowing dedicated teams to coordinate construction while maintaining access to shops, businesses, public transport and the wider town centre.
Working in a busy urban environment presented several challenges, including high pedestrian footfall, complex traffic management and extensive underground services that required ongoing design adaptations throughout construction. Close collaboration between GRAHAM, Wirral Council and the design team enabled these challenges to be addressed while maintaining momentum.
Despite the complexity of the works, the phased approach allowed the town centre to remain operational throughout construction, delivering a transformed public realm with minimal disruption to the local community.

Jordan Rhoda
“Delivering the town centre regeneration works in Birkenhead was a complex challenge that required more than just technical expertise, it required continued concentration, focus and resilience. It’s a delight to see the quality of the workmanship and hearing about the uptake in occupation of the retail units.
While overcoming significant logistical hurdles and unexpected site conditions in a live town centre environment, our team maintained a consistent focus on the end goal. The project’s success is a direct result of a combination excellent stakeholder engagement and old-fashioned hard work. All those long hours and hard work paid off in a project that will serve and benefit the local community.”
