Social value doesn’t always come in the form of apprenticeships or local spend figures. Sometimes it’s a single act of generosity that makes an immediate, tangible difference to a community.
That’s exactly what Contractor Partners Galliford Try, and supply chain partner Wernick, have delivered for Yarm Wellness, a brilliant example of what we hope to see from every project delivered through the Procure Partnerships Framework.
A Private Therapy Space for Thornaby
The Galliford Try team working on the Thornaby Pool and Pavilion project, procured via the Procure Partnerships North East Framework, arranged the donation of a site cabin to Yarm Wellness, a local mental health charity supporting over 900 people across the community.
The cabin has been upgraded into a dedicated private therapy space, officially opened earlier this month and already in use. For a charity that had been repeatedly asked whether it could offer one-to-one support sessions separate from its main building, this donation has filled a gap that had long been needed.
About Yarm Wellness
Founded in 2021 to help combat isolation during the COVID pandemic, Yarm Wellness has grown into a vital community resource, offering a wide range of support sessions for veterans, those experiencing bereavement, mental health challenges, cancer patients, and many more community groups.
The new therapy cabin will allow the charity to extend its reach and deepen the quality of support it can offer, with plans already in place to clad the cabin and add a gazebo to further enhance the space.
Stephen Lynas, Yarm Wellness Vice Chair, said:
“Thank you so much for providing the cabin for us, it is an amazing example of how businesses and the local community can come together.“
“The support we have received not only strengthens our work but also sends out a powerful message about the kind of connected, caring community we are all striving to build.”
Jack Neath, Social Value Advisor, Procure Partnerships:
“There’s never been a time where charities and community organisations are under more pressure than now to deliver more with less. Generous donations such as Galliford Try and Wernick’s are made every week by contractors on our framework, and demonstrate that, rather than being a box ticking exercise, social value offers a real chance to make real change”.
The First of Many Social Value Activities on the Thornaby Pool and Pavilion
The Thornaby Pool and Pavilion is a large-scale construction project procured via the Procure Partnerships North East Framework, with completion due in 2027.
With over a year of construction still to come, the Galliford Try team’s commitment to delivering ongoing social value throughout the programme means the Thornaby community can expect to see much more activity like this before the project is complete.
