Some of the UK’s leading contractors and consultants, including Wates, Stepnell, Galliford Try, VINCI Building and Kier, were among the winners at this year’s National Project Excellence Awards, hosted by Procure Partnerships Framework at Liverpool’s Titanic Hotel. The event brought together more than 500 contractor, consultant and client partners to celebrate the projects delivered through the framework and the people behind them.
A E Yates were the headline sponsor of the evening, and the night raised vital funds for construction mental health charity Mindflow. A total of £xxxx was raised through a dedicated charity raffle, where various local and national organisations donated fantastic prizes.
Across 17 award categories, the shortlist showcased the breadth of projects and organisations delivering public sector work through the framework, with SMEs and larger national and multinational firms recognised alongside one another. The awards celebrated excellence in project delivery, innovation, sustainability, social value and the ability to overcome complex challenges while delivering value for clients and communities.
Regional highlights included HBC Construction, which won Project of the Year (North) for the Ramsden Building Refurbishment on behalf of the University of Huddersfield, while VINCI Building picked up Project of the Year (West) for Keynsham Riverside for Bath and North East Somerset Council. John Sisk & Son won Project of the Year (East) for Our City Our River Phase 2, delivered for Derby City Council, and Carmelcrest took Project of the Year (South) for the refurbishment of Queen Victoria House for the London Borough of Redbridge.
Galliford Try secured Infrastructure Project of the Year for the Banwell Bypass, while Stepnell was recognised with Heritage Project of the Year for the Isles of Scilly Museum and Cultural Centre.
Social value was also a key theme, with Kier winning the Social Value Initiative Award for the Endoscopy Expansion at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and VolkerFitzpatrick receiving the Community Impact Award. GSSArchitecture, Hive Projects, Cadence Projects and Coreus were among the consultant and professional services winners, while Pulse Consult took Project Manager of the Year.
The awards also recognised the people making a difference across the industry, with Olivia Stapleton of Willmott Dixon named Apprentice of the Year and Jessica Munn of Speller Metcalfe taking Framework Manager of the Year. The night’s top honour, Construction Project of the Year, was awarded to Wates for the Joseph Norton School project, delivered for Kirklees Council.
Faye Dolan, Framework Director at Procure Partnerships Framework, said:
“The National Project Excellence Awards are an opportunity to recognise the people and organisations delivering some of the most important public sector projects across the country. This year’s shortlist demonstrated the breadth of work being delivered through the framework, from heritage and infrastructure projects to schools, healthcare facilities and civic buildings.
“What stood out was the range of firms represented, from SMEs to some of the largest contractors and consultancies in the industry. Each brings a different perspective and expertise, but the achievements recognised on the night show what can be delivered when that expertise is applied project briefs, challenges and opportunities.
“The winners demonstrated outstanding achievements in sustainability and social value, innovative approaches to project delivery, and the ability to respond to complex challenges while providing real value for clients. The impact of these projects can be seen at a local and national level, whether through creating employment and opportunities for local businesses, protecting communities from flooding, or delivering facilities that support the people who use them.
“Thank you to everyone who was shortlisted, and congratulations to all our winners. It was fantastic to celebrate the people behind these projects and the contribution they make to the public sector and the communities they serve.”
